Brandon Keaton: Guitar & Bass lesson Teacher - Frisco, Texas

From the moment I heard Metallica’s classic ‘Fade to Black’ at age 15, I was instantly mesmerized by the song structure. It was just so different and I loved it. This interest launched me into my lifelong passion and pursuit of the guitar and bass. My brother also had a desire to learn the guitar and suggested that we both start taking lessons from a neighbor who had a music degree from UCLA.

My mom took my brother and I to the local music store and told us we could pick out any guitar we wanted. This was a sacrifice for her, but she saw the spark in us and wanted to fan those flames.

It was 80’s rock and roll that began and shaped my early years of learning the guitar. Green Day, Blink 182, Tool, and Mudvayne were just a few of the bands that I loved listening to and trying to emulate.

I was hungry to learn as much as I could as quickly as possible. I also loved to play video games, but my love for music was greater so I began to ween myself off of video games so I could devote more and more time to the guitar. My guitar teacher laid a solid foundation of theory for me which unlocked music and provided a foundation from which to grow for years to come.

My brother and I formed a band in high school and I also joined another band as their bass player. I didn’t know how to play bass at that time but I taught myself. During high school I also built my first recording studio and began self-producing my own band as well as other bands.

The passion for music that began when I was 15 years old has never stopped or waned. I am constantly practicing and learning new things.

I enjoy teaching students of all ages and skill levels across many different genres including rock, metal, pop, blues and jazz among others. Understanding where each of my student’s passions lie is a crucial aspect to my lessons. I focus and tailor each and every lesson to my student’s specific music goals.

I work to make sure that there is something new and fresh to teach every week. Keeping my students inspired, engaged and having fun is key!
