Nick Messick

Nick Messick: piano lesson Teacher in plano, Texas

I am a passionate musician who discovered my love for the piano at a young age. Despite growing up in a family that was not particularly musically inclined, at the age of 5, I found myself drawn to the piano my mother had in our home. Without any formal training, I began learning songs by ear, inspired by the tunes I heard on the radio.

In the third grade, I showcased my budding piano skills by performing a rendition of "Let it be" at a talent show. Recognizing my genuine interest and commitment to the instrument, my mother decided to enroll me in piano lessons at the age of 10. My teacher, a local college professor, introduced me to the techniques of playing the piano and nurtured my growing talent.

Throughout my schooling years, I participated in various piano competitions, showcasing my dedication to the craft. It was during this time that I developed a fondness for classical music, playing my first real classical piece, a sonata in f minor. From the ages of 10 to 18, I took classical lessons and immersed myself in the techniques required for this genre.

At 14, my musical horizons expanded when I discovered jazz through a Thelonius Monk album. Fascinated by the concept of improvisation, I began creating my own versions of improvised jazz on the piano. This newfound interest in jazz led me to join the All-State jazz band in high school, a feat I accomplished for three consecutive years.

My musical journey continued after high school when I received a piano scholarship to attend Belmont University. However, I decided to transfer to the University of North Texas (UNT) after completing my first year at Belmont. At UNT, I joined the jazz program and thrived under the high expectations and atmosphere of excellence. Inspired by the opportunities and connections at UNT, I embraced the encouragement from my professors to be creative in my learning process.

Upon graduating from UNT, I actively immersed myself in the music scene, playing with various bands and performing at events. My versatility as a musician allowed me to be a music director on a cruise ship in Hawaii, showcasing my skills on both the piano and bass.

Having experienced the transformative power of discovering my own learning style, I am now dedicated to helping my students uncover their individual approach to music. I firmly believe that students have the ability to create their own unique style and achieve self-sustainability in their musical journey. With a wealth of experience and a passion for teaching, I continue to inspire and shape the next generation of musicians.
