Hannah Kuipers: piano lesson Teacher in plano, Texas
Hi, I’m Hannah Kuipers, and music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember! I grew up in Rochester, Minnesota, where I discovered at an early age that music was not just something I loved—it was something I wanted to share with others. At 16, I was honored to be awarded first prize in piano, harp, and voice at the Rochester Music Guild Competition. That moment was a turning point for me, not just because it changed the competition’s rules, but because it showed me the joy and excitement that music could bring—not only to me, but also to others.
After high school, I pursued my Bachelor of Harp Performance at Indiana University Bloomington. I dove in headfirst, completing the degree in just three years and along the way was thrilled to win first prizes in the Indiana Matinee Musical Competition at both the undergraduate and graduate level. One of my favorite experiences during that time was winning the Harp Concerto Competition as a sophomore—it gave me the opportunity to perform and grow as both a musician and a performer.
At the age of 22, I had the incredible opportunity to audition for and win a position with the National Philharmonic of Chile. For two years, I lived in South America and performed in an opera house, surrounded by a vibrant culture and inspiring colleagues. While I loved performing on such a big stage, I realized that my true passion has always been teaching and connecting with students of all ages. So when I returned to the United States, I knew that teaching piano, harp, and voice would continue to be a central part of my life.
I actually started teaching when I was just 13, and no matter where I’ve lived, I’ve always found myself teaching music. There’s something so fulfilling about helping someone discover their musical voice, whether it’s a young beginner just learning their first notes or an experienced student wanting to grow in a specific style. I especially love teaching piano because it’s such a versatile instrument, and I enjoy guiding students through many different genres—from classical to pop to jazz and everything in between. My goal is always to make lessons fun, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s unique interests and goals.
I truly believe music should be both a skill to master and a joy to experience. That’s why I strive to create an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and excited to learn. I want my students to leave each lesson feeling inspired, confident, and motivated to keep making music a part of their lives.
When I’m not teaching or performing, you’ll usually find me enjoying some of my other passions—spending time with my beloved Australian Shepherds, going on road biking adventures, or painting. Just like music, these hobbies give me a chance to be creative and recharge.
I’m so excited to work with students of all ages and skill levels, and I can’t wait to help you reach your musical goals while having a great time along the way!
