Joseph Drake: Drum lesson Teacher - Allen, Texas
From the time I received a small red drum set at just 5 years old, music became the heartbeat of my life. Growing up in a household filled with melodies, thanks to my bass-playing Dad, choir-singing Mom, and keyboard-talented sister, I naturally gravitated towards drums. Surrounded by music at home and in church, I found myself incredibly lucky to have such a supportive circle.
One pivotal moment in my teenage years ignited my passion further when I discovered the extraordinary drummer, Vinnie Colaiuta. His unique style captivated me, sparking a deep interest that led to dedicated study. In the vibrant musical scene of Old Town, Maine, I thrived in a jazz band that annually competed at Berklee College of Music, earning us recognition and trophies at various competitions.
Evenings were devoted to playing in the church youth band, refining skills and nurturing a love for performance. At 19, driven by these diverse experiences, I pursued a professional path in music and successfully auditioned for the Marine Band.
Throughout my journey, the importance of perseverance became clear. I learned not to merely mimic my idols but to embrace their techniques while forging my own musical identity. In my formative years, Ms. Wheeler, my elementary music teacher, stood as a beacon of unwavering support, attending events and remaining a guiding presence long after my school days.
Joining a band with a 1-in-35 success rate was a triumph, but nothing compared to the joy of being stationed in Hawaii. Traveling and performing across 20+ countries enriched my musical soul. Teaching became a natural extension, spanning ages 4 to 54 and encompassing every genre from beginner to advanced levels.
My aspiration for my students is simple: to make learning an enjoyable journey, leaving them with a greater hunger for musical performance than when they began. Let’s embark on this musical adventure together!
Amari Pevehouse: Drum lesson Teacher - Allen, Texas
Hi, I'm Amari! I have been passionate about drums for as long as I can remember. My love for music started when I was just 3 years old, thanks to my godparents, who gifted me a toy drum set. By the time I was 8, my parents surprised me with a real drum set, and that is when everything clicked. I started playing in my local church when I was 12, which laid the foundation for my career as a drummer.
Throughout middle and high school, I was deeply involved in the percussion band, constantly honing my skills. One of the highlights of that time was winning a competition that gave me the incredible opportunity to perform in Seattle. I also joined a salsa band in high school, and we traveled to New Orleans, which opened up doors for me to play alongside legends like pianist Chucho Valdés and percussionist Poncho Sanchez. Those experiences were truly life-changing.
I started playing professionally when I was 16, started organizing gigs and building my career from there. I went on to study music at the University of North Texas, where I continued to develop as a musician. Today, I love sharing my passion for drums with students, helping them reach their musical goals, whether they are just starting out or looking to take their drumming to the next level.
